OpenAI rolls GPT-6 Astra to Pro, Enterprise, and the API

OpenAI is rolling out GPT-6 Astra. On 4 September 2026 the lab said Pro, Enterprise, and Business Premium users now have it in ChatGPT Work and Codex, and that the API is live. Plus and remaining Business seats might wait a few more days.

From the 4 September 2026 @OpenAI post: "GPT-6 Astra is now available to all Pro, Enterprise, and Business Premium users in ChatGPT Work and Codex. It's also live in the API. It might take a few days to roll out to our Plus and Business users. Thank you for your patience."

The day before, the 3 September 2026 @OpenAI post said: "GPT-6 Astra is rolling out today to a limited set of organizations and over the coming days will become available to all ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise users, as well as through the OpenAI API and AWS." The matching OpenAI launch post also lists Microsoft Azure and AWS Bedrock. 3 September API release notes still said Astra was not yet generally available, with broader access planned over coming days.

Developer docs list model id `gpt-6-astra`, a 1,050,000-token context window, 128,000 max output tokens, and an April 30, 2026 knowledge cutoff. Standard API list prices are $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens. Prompts over 272K input tokens are billed at 2x input and cache rates and 1.5x output for the full request.

OpenAI's safety overview (3 September 2026) calls Astra the most capable model it has ever broadly deployed, and its first model to reach the Critical cybersecurity level under the Preparedness Framework. The launch post reports vendor scores including 98% on FrontierMath Tier 4, 99.9% on ARC-AGI-3, and 100% on ExploitBench.
